It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of David James Kempt, 62, on August 8, 2026, in Newmarket, Ontario from dementia. He was born on September 16, 1963, to Elderick and Elizabeth (nee Stephen) Kempt of Florence, Nova Scotia.
David attended the University College of Cape Breton where he earned a degree in Hospitality Management. He moved to Ontario where he worked at various jobs within the hospitality industry, finally finishing his working days in the turf department at a golf course. David was an avid Montreal Canadiens fan and enjoyed watching sports of all kinds.
David is survived by his son, Matthew, his daughter, Emily and their mother, Michelle. He will be lovingly remembered by his brothers, Malcolm (Roberta) and Chuck (BettyLou); sisters Anne Reid (George) and Karen Power (Paul), and his many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, William, in infancy.
Cremation has taken place.
A memorial service will be held at a later date in Cape Breton.
