KIMMERER, Christopher Howard Kimmerer

Passed away peacefully on August 11, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family and friends.

He was the beloved husband of Melanie Kimmerer and a devoted father to Madison, Alexandra and Caitlyn. He was also a proud dog dad, to his beloved pup Brandon. “Let’s Go Brandon”

For the past five years, he lived with a Stage IV Cancer diagnosis, choosing to take life “one day at a time”. Throughout his journey, he continued to find reasons to laugh, love, and make memories with the people who meant the most to him.

Cancer taught us the value in a day, a moment, and every single memory.

Christopher Kimmerer loved nothing more than having everyone together, whether gathered in the backyard, sitting on the porch watching a thunderstorm, enjoying the gardens he took such pride in, or simply spending quality time together at home with his family.

Chris and Melanie first met in Grade 3 at Glengrove Public School, and were blessed with 28 years of marriage. Together they raised their three beautiful girls and poured everything into ensuring they knew the importance of working hard, being kind, and always speaking the truth.

Chris had a love for hockey, golf, fishing, gardening, music, and, of course, his beloved Toronto Maple Leafs.

Chris was an avid dad joke teller, movie quote reciter, and storyteller. He always had one to share. Some were funny, some were unbelievable (Campsite 15), and some had been told so many times that even though everyone knew how they ended, he told them anyway, with his big smile that could light up any room.

Chris volunteered for many years coaching with the Clarington Flames, where he shared his love of hockey while teaching young players about teamwork, confidence, and being a part of something bigger than themselves. The friendships and memories he made through coaching became an important part of his life. Our beloved Dirty Dozen and closest friends became the support system that surrounded our family with love when we needed it most. “Friends truly are the Family you choose”.

Chris worked at OPG for the past 26 years. He loved his work family fiercely. He took great pride in his work and was greatly respected. We cannot thank them enough for the support they have provided us throughout his entire journey.

Chris leaves behind his wife Melanie, his daughters Madison (Liam), Alexandra (Derek), and Caitlyn (Quinten), his parents Gord and Patricia Kimmerer, his grandma Marie Sidney, his Father-in-Law Bob Beresford, his sister-in-law Holly Beresford, his brother-in-law Jason Rynard, his nephews Tyler (Kyla) & Hayden Rynard, his sister Julie Lohnes (Jeff), nephew Peyton and niece Emily, his Uncle (Big Brother) Steven, his cousin Sarah (Bradley), his Aunt Sue Watson (Kevin) and cousins Kyle (Stephanie) and Alicia (Daniel) and their families, as well as his cousin Stacey Beresford and family. Chris had a large family and was also blessed with many more aunts, uncles, and cousins. We know that Chris was lovingly welcomed into Heaven with his Grandad (Roy Sidney), Mother-In Law (Linda Beresford), Grand Papa (Armand St. Onge), Nana Banana and Grandpa K (Margaret and William Kimmerer).

Chris had many dear friends, his “boys” meant the world to him.

We will be celebrating Chris’ life on September 25th, 2026 at 6PM, at Garnet B. Rickard Arena, Bowmanville where he spent many hours coaching, and watching his girls play the game he loved. We were given the gifts of time and knowing, so all arrangements were made by him. We hope you will all join us for some laughs, stories, and great live music from his favourite band – The Local Locos, as he “never wanted to make people sad, he only wanted to make them smile”.
