Douglas Lane

January 30, 1932 – November 7, 2025

Elderly man with white mustache and glasses smiling

Beloved son of Chester and Blanche (née Mackay) Lane. He proudly served his country as a Military Officer in Korea before embarking on a diverse career path. Doug worked in Vancouver’s logging industry, delivered milk by sleigh in Toronto, and served as an investigator for the Investment Dealers Association. His long-standing dedication as a Police Officer with the Toronto Police Services defined much of his professional life.

Doug is survived by his loving wife, Giselle Lane; daughter, Liana; and son-in-law, Ed De Sousa (Bernadette). He was a cherished grandfather to Jessie Dracatos (Justin Paveo), Emilia De Sousa (Daniel Jennett), Madeleine De Sousa, and Joey De Sousa (Shayline Pitt), and a proud great-grandfather to Scarlett, Kali, Calder, and Hazel. Doug’s memory will also be fondly cherished by his brother, Gordon (Sheila) Lane, along with nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was predeceased by his brothers Rev. Ron (Catherine) Lane and Glen Lane, and his son Brett Lane.

Family and friends are invited to a visitation on Friday, November 21, from 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Northcutt Elliott Funeral Home, 53 Division St, Bowmanville. As per Doug’s wishes, no formal service will be held. Following the reception, a Celebration of Doug’s Life will take place at the Portly Piper, 57 King St, Oshawa, from 3:15 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Doug had a fondness for returning to his roots in Nova Scotia and cherished visits to Quebec, the beloved province of his wife, Giselle. His legacy of service, dedication, and love for family will be remembered and celebrated by all who knew him.
