He of Kelowna, BC, died unexpectedly at home on May 15, 2026. He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Susan, and children Kristof (Maxine), Holly (Jim), and Kerry (Lana). He had three grandchildren, Kendryx (Craig), Peter, and Hudson, and two great-grandchildren, Junior and Tiberius. Ken was predeceased by his sister, Bonnie (Chris).
Kenneth George Langland was a patriarch, a protector, and above all a teacher. He led the family with dignity, wisdom, love, and business acumen. His loss is immeasurable, and he will be deeply missed by the Langland family, extended family, and friends.
In his life he had many passions and accomplishments; he was a Canadian Air Force cadet and later an Army Reserve Captain in the Signals Corp, which led to his lifelong passion of flying and technology. This led to a job as a radio station technician, and eventually led him to teach computer science at Western University in the 60s. Ken was an early adopter and pioneer in PCs and communication technology, exploring new innovations, an example being researching and building his own computers.
Ken was an avid sportsman, always pushing the limit on what is possible in sport gliding and sailing. He loved skiing, playing squash and tennis in his younger years, and was a very competitive and passionate golfer in his later years. He loved motorcycling and eventually e-biking. He was intensely interested in cars and loved to buy and sell them. He was an avid reader and always followed the news and current events.
His academic journey culminated in three Master’s Degrees: Computer Science, Engineering, and Counselling Psychology. Beyond teaching at Western University and UBC, this combination led Ken to start a very successful business career in Management Consulting, in which he continued his passion of teaching. Beyond teaching and guiding hundreds of professionals, he took on many pro-bono clients working in non-profits, and took great satisfaction from helping others.
While Ken’s passing is sudden and difficult, he would want us to look at the bright side and to find ways to celebrate what a great life he had and all the ways he contributed to those who knew him.
In honour of Ken, a Celebration of Life, with Celebrant Ali Scheck, will be held on Saturday, May 30, 2026, at 10:00 AM (PDT), at Springfield Funeral Home, 2020 Springfield Road, Kelowna, BC. A reception will be held following the service.
