LATIMER, Joan Elizabeth Latimer (née Glionna)

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Joan Elizabeth Latimer (née Glionna) announces her peaceful passing on November 11, 2024, at Campbell House Hospice in Collingwood, Ontario, at the age of 93.

Joan was a beloved mother to Shelley Latimer (James Glasspool) and Ian Latimer (Iris Puntanen), and a proud grandmother to Jamie, Kate Glasspool, Sarah, and Erin Latimer. She will also be lovingly remembered by her brother Jim Glionna (late Pat), nephew Joe Glionna (Maud Bones), and nieces Lillian, Dalia, and Evelyn, as well as countless friends and the many lives she touched along the way.

Born in Toronto’s Beach neighborhood, Joan graduated from Ryerson in Journalism, beginning her career at Eaton’s Company newspaper. She later became editor of the Beach Metro News, where she worked for 22 years, helping turn it into a thriving community publication. Joan was inducted into the Beach Roll of Honour in 1997 for her achievements as a Beach resident.

Joan had a lifelong love for skiing, curling, and adventure. She traveled extensively to places like China, Vietnam, the Baltic, and Cuba, and immersed herself in the vibrant communities of Toronto and Collingwood. Known for her curiosity and technological adaptability, Joan stayed informed through her many subscriptions and engaged conversations about global politics and current events.

A dedicated grandmother, Joan cherished her grandchildren’s visits and calls. Her sense of humor, wit, strength, and independence were an inspiration to many. She will be missed dearly by all who knew her.

The family extends their gratitude to Dr. Fraser, Dr. Habib, and the staff and volunteers at Campbell House Hospice for their compassionate care. In memory of Joan, donations can be made to the Hospice Georgian Triangle Foundation – Campbell House or the CGMH Foundation.
