LAWRENCE, Robert William Lawrence
May 18, 1943 - June 15, 2026It is with great sadness that the family of Robert William Lawrence, of Oshawa, ON, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on June 15, 2026 at Lakeridge Hospital in Oshawa in his 84th year.
Robert (Bob) was born on May 18, 1943 in St. Johnβs, Newfoundland to Robert and Flora Lawrence. He was proud of his roots in Newfoundland and had fond memories of attending St. Bonds before leaving for the mainland at 18 years old. He considered himself a true Newfoundlander.
It was in Ontario that he met the love of his life, whom he married in 1965. They spent many fun, loving years together before Cheryl was placed into a long-term care facility.
They had two beautiful children: first their daughter, Nancy Ann (1966) followed by their son Robert (Bobby) in 1969 which completed their family. Bob was truly a family man who loved his whole family and large circle of friends.
Robert had a successful career with the Royal Bank of Canada in various management roles. He thoroughly enjoyed his last role in commercial banking, where he experienced a sense of accomplishment and felt proud of his ability to provide for his family. He also worked at Ford Motor Company prior to his banking career. Outside of work he was a vibrant soul who truly loved socializing and bringing people together.
Bob enjoyed many sports throughout the years such as curling and bowling. He also liked to watch hockey. However, he was passionate about golf! He could be found perfecting his swing or enthusiastically watching a tournament. He also could be found making friendly wagers with friends. The best part of golfing was the socialization during and after the gameβtelling jokes and celebrating the day with a cold one (beers).
Robert had a very special connection with his two grandchildren Alexandria and Blake. He was very proud to be a great-grandfather to Alexβs children and was actively involved in their daily lives! He was recently excited to hear from Blake that another great-grandchild will be arriving in October.
Robert is survived by the love of his life, Cheryl, his children, Nancy and Bobby, his grandchildren, Alexandria (Kent) and Blake (Darian), and of course his precious great-grandchildren Clark (9), Lewis (7), Derek (3), and Athena (2). He leaves behind his Goddaughter Melissa (Matt) Scarf and his brothers Jim (Debbie) and John (Karen) and Brothers-in-laws: Guy (Donna) Boudreault, Todd (Nancy) Shillington, and Gary Shillington as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friendships.
Bob was predeceased by his parents and sisters Ann Lawrence and Cathy Boudreault and brother David Lawrence.
He also leaves to mourn Eileen Barbeau, special friend/companion, who has been by his side for several years providing companionship, support, and love. They spent many hours in each other’s company and had a lot of fun together.
I am sure you all have received advice and his opinions over the years – he always wanted the best for everyone! We will certainly discuss these and all our favourite memories of an incredible family man at his Celebration of Life (TBD).
Forever loved and missed by all who knew him!
