LINDSAY, John Charles Lindsay
September 5, 2025
John’s earthly journey was completed in the early morning of September 5, 2025, dying peacefully and comfortably in his sleep at the family home.
Husband, friend, and companion to Rosemarie Lindsay (Moyser), wife of 58 years. Father to dearly loved sons John M. and Kirk (Mary). Born in Merriton, Ontario, on October 22, 1944, to Ivan and Margaret Bell Lindsay, predeceased. Eldest brother to Ivan (Elaine) deceased, Martin (Helen), Gary (Janet), Ron, Iva (Greg), Ken (Sandy), and Kathryn (Ron). Brother-in-law to Hazel and Patrick Beech, U.K. Remembered by nieces and nephews, England.
John grew up in Powassan, Ontario, later moving to St. Catharines. He was a passionate car enthusiast qualifying as an auto mechanic. This passion for mechanics and the pursuit of further education motivated him to complete a teaching certificate at Althouse College, Western University, as well as a degree at Wilfrid Laurier University. He was employed as a teacher for 31 years with the Waterloo Board of Education. John’s marriage to Rosemarie was of double significance as they made it also part of their 1967 Centennial celebration – Rosemarie got married and John grew a beard!
An encounter with Jesus shaped John’s outlook for the rest of his life, as he sought to live the Christian life.
The enjoyment and challenge of solving diverse project problems made him into a real-life MacGyver. Using these skills, he coordinated a church work project on a mission in Haiti.
John was always grateful for his life being extended by being a transplant lung recipient in 2016.
As a husband and father, his love and commitment to his family was evident by his caring, encouragement, and generosity towards them. John’s love of acquiring knowledge and his hard work ethic has been an example to both family and students.
