Passed away at home on August 17, 2026, at the age of 96, with her family by her side.
Born in North Bay, Ontario, on January 10, 1930, Marie lived a life rooted in family, faith, love and laughter. She met the love of her life, Jack Labreche, through the Catholic Youth Organization (CYO), and the two married in 1952. Together, they built a family and a home filled with love, warmth and memories that would last generations. Jack predeceased Marie 20 years ago.
Marie Loraine Labreche graduated from Normal School where she studied to become a teacher. Although she began her career in teaching, she soon discovered her greater calling: being a wife, mother and homemaker. Her family was her life’s work, and she devoted herself wholeheartedly to the people she loved.
Marie’s faith was an important part of her life. She was an active member of the Catholic Women’s League (CWL) for many years and was involved in various ways at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, where she found community, friendship and a place to share her faith and serve others.
Marie will be lovingly remembered by her five children: Roxanne; Louanne (Gord); Tim (Irene); John; and Robert (Tammy).
She was a proud grandmother to Christine, Kyleen, Lisa, Peter, Mark, Will, Andrew, Sean and Shannon, and a great-grandmother (affectionately known as ‘Gigi’) to Jack, Claire, Abbie, Grayson, Liam, Orson, Henley, Georgie, Henry, River and Olive.
Those who knew Marie will remember many things about her, but perhaps most of all, they will remember her laugh. Her laughter was infectious, full, joyful and impossible not to join in with.
Following Jack’s passing, Marie spent many happy days at Salvation Army Mountberry (Adult Day Care Centre), where she enjoyed the companionship, activities and friendships that became an important part of her life.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff at Hamilton General Palliative Care team, as well as Bayshore, St. Elizabeth nurses and Be Home, for the compassionate care and support they provided to Marie and her family.
Her home may now be quiet, but her laughter, her love and the countless memories she created will continue to echo through the generations.
She was deeply loved. She will be deeply missed. And she will never be forgotten.

some sunny day.”
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, August 21, 2026, at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, 50 Brucedale Avenue East, Hamilton, ON L9A 1M8.
Interment will follow at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery, 254 Garner Road West, Ancaster, ON L9G 3K9.
