It is with great sadness the family announces the peaceful passing of Elmer Gordon Mark, surrounded by his loving family, on July 12, 2026, at the age of 97, just as the Blue Jays tied the game in the 4th inning. Beloved husband of Alice of 65 cherished years. Loving father of Brian (Sylvia) Mark and Susan Mark. Proud Grandpa of Kelli and Dylan. Elmer will be missed by his nieces Donna and Patricia.
Elmer was a hardworking and entrepreneurial man who spent much of his life in the lumber retail industry and successfully owned and operated several variety stores and lottery businesses. Beyond his work, he embraced life with enthusiasm and a genuine love of people. A dedicated athlete, Elmer played slow-pitch baseball throughout his life and continued playing Senior Slow Pitch well into his eighties. He was also a passionate curler, proudly caring for the curling ice in years past and rarely missing a televised match. An encyclopedia of both curling and baseball knowledge, he could recount statistics and players with remarkable accuracy. Elmer had a gift for conversation and connection, always eager to learn about the lives, the families and the stories of everyone he met. He stayed closely connected with his loved ones through regular FaceTime calls, mastering the iPad with ease and ensuring he never missed a family update. Curious and engaged with the world around him, Elmer was always informed about current events and global happenings. His commitment to health and wellness was equally impressive, as he faithfully exercised twice a day and remained active throughout his life. Together with Alice, they enjoyed many happy winters at their Florida condominium and, after its sale, looked forward to spending time in California visiting the grand kids. Elmer’s energy, warmth, curiosity, and unwavering interest in others will be remembered and cherished by all who knew him.
