MARTINELLI, Anton Jakob Martinelli

Anton was born in Graz, Austria, and was one of five children. He is predeceased by his sisters Mitzel and Annie, and his brother Franz. He will be missed by his younger sister, Rosel.

Anton Jakob Martinelli immigrated to Canada from Austria as a young man, determined to build a better life. As a mason and bricklayer, he applied his strong work ethic and skilled hands to the construction of many buildings throughout the Durham Region. After a short time, he struck out on his own, working on both large and small residential and commercial stonework projects. He often shared stories of his work with pride, reflecting the dedication he brought to his craft.

In addition to the five homes Anton built in the Oshawa/Whitby area, he also built a home in St. Petersburg, Florida, where he and Hilde spent many years as snowbirds.

He spent the majority of his life in Brooklin, where he designed and built his family home on 14 acres of land—a place he cherished as his personal paradise. Surrounded by nature, it reflected his deep appreciation for the outdoors and the peace he found there.

One of Anton’s greatest joys was fishing. Whether heading to northern Ontario in the camper on the back of his pickup, fishing streams for spring steelhead, going out on charters on Lake Ontario, or fishing the piers in St. Petersburg, Florida, it was always something he enjoyed in his spare time.

He also maintained a strong connection to his German heritage, and for many years he was an active member of the Club Loreley choir.

He will be lovingly remembered by his son, Ron Martinelli (Julie Lemette), and their children, Cole (Lindsey), Duncan (Amanda), Jake (Sam), Lauren, and Atlas; and by his daughter, Christine Martinelli (Paul Morin), and their children, Melanie (Shane) and Jessica (Alex). Anton was also a proud great-grandfather to Leo, Noah, Adrianna, and Kendal.

Visitation will be held at OSHAWA FUNERAL HOME, 847 King Street West (905-721-1234) on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.followed by a 1:00 p.m. Mass at St. Leo’s Catholic Church.

The family would like to extend their sincere thanks to the staff at Lakeridge Heights for their dedication, compassion, and kindness.
