Mary “Irene” Doucette (née Mitchell) passed away in Kelowna, British Columbia, on September 22, 2026. She was born in Corner Brook, Newfoundland, on October 20, 1927, and moved to Kelowna in 2018 to be closer to family.
Irene was the heart of a large family and was known for her generosity, compassion, faith, baking, love of music, and pride in her Newfoundland and Mi’kmaq heritage. Her grandfather was the Newfoundland guide and explorer Mattie Mitchell.
She is survived by her children Douglas, Derek, and Brenda and their spouses; granddaughters Sarah, Stefani, and Christina; five great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, and friends. She was predeceased by her husband, Bernard Joseph Doucette; sons Daniel and David; her parents, John and Agnes Mitchell; and her ten siblings.
Cremation has taken place. Irene will be returned to Newfoundland and laid to rest with her husband in the Field of Honour at Mount Pleasant Cemetery in St. John’s.
