MATHERS, Glen Owen Mathers

Passed away peacefully November 6th with his family by his side.

Glen leaves behind his beloved partner of 20 years Sheri Struth, his three children, Jim Mathers (Kait), Christina and Carolyn(Chris), his stepchildren Kristen Struth (Donnie), Kyle Struth(Sadie) and beloved Papa to Blake.

Glen was born in Toronto on July 27th 1954 to Olive & Harold Mathers. Glen spent his childhood growing up in San Francisco and Chicago before his family relocated back to Ontario where Glen earned his BA in Geography at Wilfred Laurier. Glen then became an Investment Advisor with Richardson Greenshields and then in 1997 he moved over to work with Merrill Lynch which later became CIBC Wood Gundy where he stayed until retiring in 2023.

Glen Hosted a Sunday AM business program on CKCO TV in the late 80’s, in the 90’s Glen headed the Chamber of Commerce Physician Recruitment Task Force for Kitchener Waterloo and was awarded Volunteer of the year in 1999 by the Chamber of Commerce.

Glen was also awarded the Queen Elizabeth II Golden Jubilee Medal in 2002, he was an RHFC Council member, he sat on the Elder Abuse Council for Kitchener Waterloo, a member of the 100 Men of Wilmot who give a Damn and most dear to his heart was his being part of the St John Ambulance Therapy Dog program where he went weekly to visit seniors with his two English Golden Retrievers and every Christmas ran his own little Santa Paws Christmas event with the dogs and the seniors.

Cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Glen’s Life will be held at one of his favorite spots, the Hacienda Sereda at 1254 Union Street, Kitchener on November 16th from 1:00 to 4:00 with tributes being shared at 2:00 pm.
