Born on September 6, 1931, in Toronto, Ontario, Audrey grew up on St. Clarens Ave. in Toronto. She graduated from grade 13 with honours and started to work as a « calculator » for an insurance company. In 1953, she married Dick and with the RCAF they lived all over: Rockliffe (Ottawa), Claresholm (Alberta), Camp Borden (Alliston), France (2Wing), Germany (3Wing), and then back to Camp Borden (Alliston).
Audrey believed in helping the community and volunteered in many capacities. She was instrumental in setting up Big Brothers and Big Sisters in Alliston, she was on the Stevenson Memorial Hospital Auxiliary for over 30 years and served in various capacities at Knox Presbyterian Church – her butter tarts were always in high demand. She loved to sing in choirs and had fond memories of singing in The Mikado (three little maids) and The Gondoliers.
She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, the matriarch of the family. She welcomed each new family member, each new milestone with great excitement, and kept track of every person’s accomplishments in a meticulously kept written record. She and Dick were generous in their support of each family member as they had need.
Donations can be made to Matthews House, Stevenson Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, Knox Church Alliston or the Canadian Cancer Society.
