McDONALD, Allister “Mac” McDonald
June 5, 2025
Allister “Mac” MacDonald died peacefully on March 5, 2025, at Campbell House Hospice in Collingwood, Ontario, with his family at his side, in his 102nd year.
Allister joins his beloved wife Vi, who he married on June 29, 1945, and who passed on November 25, 2014. He also joins his siblings and many dear friends. He will be dearly missed by his children Bruce (Susan), Kay Munroe (Donald), David (Julie), and Stuart (Lindsey). He was a treasured grandfather to Craig, Michael, Scott, Matthew, Jessica, Jasmine, Colton, Brody, Melissa, and Bradley. His many grandchildren and great-grandchildren cherish his memory.
Allister was a great man who impacted everyone he crossed paths with. He served his country and his community for many years in too many ways to list and was an inspiration for many. He enlisted with the RCAF in 1941, working as an Air Engine Mechanic with RCAF 429 (Bison) Squadron during the Second World War and knew everything there was to know about the Lancaster. Following the war, he worked for more than thirty years in the base construction engineering section at CFB Borden, served on town council for nearly a decade, served for two terms as Mayor of Stayner, sat as a member on the local housing authority, and operated MacDonald’s 9 to 11 convenience for many years. He was a lifetime member of the Stayner Legion Branch 457 and an honorary member of RCAFA 441 (Huronia) Wing.
