McDONALD, Verta Helen McDonald

Verta passed away peacefully at Huntsville Hospice on June 4, 2025, at the age of 95. She was born December 28, 1929, to the late Gordon and Frances Wieler, and was the oldest of six siblings.

Beloved wife of the late William “Bill” MacDonald and mother to Robert (Roberta), Jill Bullen, Peter (Sherry), and Patti Cormack (Scott). Also predeceased by son-in-law Lennis Bullen, sister Rhena, and dear companions Ray McEown and Doug Jones.

Verta lovingly embraced her role as grandmother to ten grandchildren—Michael, Gordon, Amie, Willis, Quincy, Megan, Courtney, Kyle, Samantha, and Wade—and great-grandmother to twenty-one. She treasured each moment with them and made countless memories they will forever cherish.

A passionate traveler, Verta spent many winters in La Cruz, Mexico with Ray, and enjoyed trips to the UK, river cruises, Alaska, and Vancouver Island. She was an avid bridge player, gardener, reader, curler, and enjoyed arts and crafts.

Verta worked primarily in retail, including many years at Eaton’s, where she led the wool department, and also held positions at Royal Bank and I.A.C. Finance. Her long-standing friendship with Marion Pavli, dating back to childhood, brought joy throughout their lives.

A heartfelt thank you to the compassionate team at Roger’s Cove in Huntsville, who supported Verta with kindness and dignity.

A service will be held Friday, June 20, 2025, at 1 p.m. at All Saints Anglican Church, Huntsville, followed by a reception at the Royal Canadian Legion at 2 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Algonquin Grace Hospice (Huntsville Hospice) or a charity of your choice would be appreciated.
