MCKEAG, Allan McKeag
September 4, 1947 - July 11, 2026
It is with great sadness that the family of Allan “Al” McKeag announce his peaceful passing after a brief illness on Saturday, July 11, 2026, at Innisfree Hospice, Kitchener, at the age of 78.
Born on September 4, 1947, in Paisley, Scotland, Al was the beloved son of the late Allan Graham and Martha (Wilson) McKeag.
Al was the cherished husband and best friend of Margaret (Northey) McKeag. He was a loving and devoted father to Kimberley McKeag and Allison Patel (Raj), and a proud and devoted grandfather to Robert, Quint, and Kalpen, who brought him immense joy. He will also be deeply missed by his sister-in-law, Donna Goss and her husband Gary, as well as his nieces, nephews, extended family, and many dear friends.
Known affectionately by many as the “Ice Man,” Al had a lifelong passion for curling. He enjoyed the camaraderie of the many curling leagues in which he participated over the years and treasured the friendships the sport brought into his life. Golf was another favourite pastime, not for the competition, but for the opportunity to spend time with friends, share laughter, and enjoy the outdoors.
Above all else, Al was a devoted family man. His daughters knew that no matter the problem, their dad was only a phone call away. Affectionately known as “Mr. Fix It,” there was seemingly nothing he couldn’t repair. He was always willing to lend a hand, offer practical advice, or quietly help someone in need, expecting nothing in return.
Al enjoyed a successful career as a mechanical engineer, where his knowledge, ingenuity, and problem-solving abilities were well respected. His generous spirit extended into his volunteer work, where he played an instrumental role in helping the Mennonite Central Committee Cannery become established and operational. He took great pride in supporting a project that continues to serve so many.
Never one to stop learning, Al also enjoyed spending time with his flight simulator, exploring the skies and revisiting the places he and Margaret had called home during their years in Britain. It was a hobby that reflected both his curiosity and his appreciation for life’s journeys.
Al will be remembered for his gentle nature, quiet strength, unwavering willingness to help others, quick wit, and the genuine kindness he extended to everyone he met. His love for his family, his dedication to his community, and the many friendships he cultivated throughout his life leave behind a lasting legacy that will never be forgotten.
Cremation has taken place.
Family and friends are invited to the Mark Jutzi Funeral Home, 291 Huron Street, New Hamburg, on Friday, July 17, 2026, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., and again on Saturday, July 18, 2026, from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. A Celebration of Al’s Life will be held in the funeral home chapel on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery, New Hamburg.
As expressions of sympathy, and in lieu of flowers, donations to Innisfree Hospice would be appreciated by the family.
Though deeply missed, Al’s love, kindness, generosity, and steady presence will remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. His memory will continue to inspire every life he touched.
