Peacefully at Park Lane Terrace, Paris on August 4th, 2025, in her 99th year.
Born in Drumheller in 1927 to Archibald (d. 1959) and Alexandrine Leontine (nee Monfort) Miles (d. 1978), Bessie, and her sister Frances, spent the summers of their early years on the prairie at the family’s farm, and school months at their house in town, at Morin, Alberta. The friends and acquaintances made at that time would become Bessie’s pen pals for life.
After the war, in 1945, the family moved to Paris, Ontario where her parents established a market garden business and Bessie made countless more friends attending high school and then joining groups such as the Walker Press bowling team, the United Church UCW and others. She became a long-time member of the Rebekah Lodge, joining in the early 1950’s, with her membership still current at the end of this year.
Bessie is survived by her daughter Dawn Bellamy (Jim), Dwight (Edith), four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Cremation has taken place and a family service will be held graveside at the Paris cemetery.
The family is grateful to all staff, volunteers and residents at Park Lane Terrace for filling Bessie’s final years with activity, fun and laughter. She will be missed by many. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the charities of one’s choice.
