Joanne Moodie

October 12, 1941 – November 22, 2025

Smiling person with sunglasses outdoors.

She was known for her unconditional love and devotion to her children and her grandchildren. All who knew her, knew that this love and devotion extended to the animal kingdom as well – she spent many years volunteering at the Brockville OSPCA where she occupied a seat on the board for several years.

Born in Montreal, she moved her family to Brockville in 1976 where she made a life and a home and landed a job she loved for nearly 30 years as a switchboard operator with the Brockville Psychiatric Hospital.

She is survived by her three children, Shannon Moodie (Dave Smith) Alison Grant (Mike Grant) and Erin Moodie (Ken Tweeddle); her grandchildren Makayla Bond, Danika Moodie, Brienna Veleke (Austin Veleke) and Bronwen Smith; and by 2 great grandsons Luka Bond and Callum Veleke.

Joanne shared a goofy, some may say, warped sense of humour and countless inside jokes with her family, one of which, involved the writing of her obituary. When during some good-natured banter, her youngest daughter proclaimed, “your obituary is just going to say, ” She’s dead.” to which our crazy matriarch burst out laughing and replied, “I dare you!”

Jo found joy in simple pleasures from crossword puzzles to Amarula liqueur on her ice cream to being surrounded by her family; in accordance with her wishes, there will be no formal services held. She is laid to rest with her husband Dave, and her family will hold a private gathering to celebrate her life, where will drink Amarula in Jo’s honour.

Send a message of condolence or share a special thought of Jo on the memory wall above.
