It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce the passing of Jane Anne Palmer, who left us peacefully at the age of 89. A beloved sister, aunt, friend, teacher, and community member, Jane’s presence touched many lives, especially on Manitoulin Island.
Jane is lovingly remembered by her brother Frank, her niece Allison, and her nephew Jeff. Her heart and soul were deeply rooted in Mindemoya, where she embraced island life with creativity and generosity. Her connection to the area began in the 1950s on Treasure Island and deepened at Quiddler’s Quay within the beloved Lois Lane community.
A devoted educator, Jane spent her career as a primary school teacher and librarian in Toronto. She had an enduring passion for nurturing young minds and celebrating their milestones.
Jane was also a gifted artist—expressing herself through photography, painting, sketching, knitting, crocheting, and writing. A lifelong reader and correspondent, she had a poetic spirit and valued meaningful connection through written words.
Known for her quiet generosity, Jane supported countless individuals and organizations, leaving behind a legacy of kindness and compassion.
The family extends deep thanks to Doug Smith and tradespeople who maintained her cherished cottage, Sue Cumini for devoted caregiving, and the many friends, healthcare workers, and support staff who cared for Jane in her final years.
A funeral service will be held at St. Francis of Assisi Church in Mindemoya on Saturday, May 3, 2025. Visitation begins at 10:30 a.m. with the service at 11:00 a.m., followed by burial at Mindemoya Cemetery.
