PAYNE, John Frederick Payne

It is with broken hearts that the family announces the passing of John Frederick Payne on Tuesday June 9th, 2026 at the age of 75. As a retired Durham Regional Police Officer, John served his community for over 30 years.

John leaves behind his loving wife, Carole (nee Tomlins). Devoted parent to Chris (Sherri) Oerlemans, Heather (Ray) Ellis and Stephen Payne. Proud and beloved Papa to Sarah (Dylan), Caitlin (Matt), Rachel (Jay) and Trinity (Dylan) and step-grandpa to Brandon, Joshua and Madison. Cherished brother to Julie Alexander, and Rob (Luanne) Payne.

John is predeceased by his parents Fred and Isabel and his sister Sally. Loving pet parent to his devoted dog, Sherlock. Remembered by his many hunting buddies and friends from his coffee club. John will also be dearly missed by his many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

The family would like to thank all the doctors and nurses who provided exceptional care and compassion during John’s battle with cancer.

In keeping with John’s wishes, cremation has taken place.

There will be a Celebration of Life at the Solina Community Hall, 1964 Concession Rd 6, Hampton, Friday June 26th, 2026 from 3:00pm – 7:00pm. There will be a time for words of remembrance at 3:15pm.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to Ducks Unlimited or the Princess Margaret Hospital Foundation would be appreciated by the family.
