Johanna (Jenny) Penner was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, on November 20, 1930, and passed away peacefully on June 4, 2025, at the St. Catharines General Hospital. The beloved daughter of John and Katharina Derksen, Jenny was one of six siblings and lived a life rooted in faith, family, and service.
Jenny grew up on a farm in Newton Siding before her family relocated to Niagara-on-the-Lake. She poured her heart into raising her family and devoted herself to helping others—providing meals, babysitting, gardening, and volunteering extensively, including service in the kitchen at Camp Crossroads and later contributing to quilt-making.
Her life reflected her strong faith and prayerful spirit, often journaling prayer requests and serving the Fairview Mennonite Brethren (now North End) community. Her kindness and unwavering devotion touched countless lives.
Jenny was predeceased by her beloved husband Dave, granddaughter Cassandra, and all of her siblings. She leaves behind a loving legacy carried on by her children Wayne & Ruth, Dennis & Gail, Don & Laurie-Anne, and Art & Cyndi Rae; 11 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
A celebration of Jenny’s life will be held at Tallman Funeral Home, 3277 King St., Vineland on Saturday, June 7, 2025, at 11 a.m. A livestream of the service will also be available.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Camp Crossroads.
