PHILLIPS, Judith Ann (nee Hazell), March 7, 1941 – August 18, 2025
Died at Hamilton General Hospital. She is predeceased by her husband, Keith, parents Albert Edward Hazell and Florence May Brook, and younger brother Jeremy Hazell.

Judith is survived by her three daughters, Carol (Chris), Rosalind, and Marion (Wilrik); grandchildren Sebastian, Christian, Abigail, Ashton, and Willem. Aunt to several nieces and nephews.

Born in Corbridge/Tyne, England, Judith came to Canada in 1957 as a teenager with her family and first settled in Guelph before moving to Hamilton. She was a member of All Saints Church in Hamilton and a member of its choir before moving to Binbrook with her husband and young children. There, she became a long-time member of Christ Church Woodburn and its choir, also serving as choirmaster.

Judith worked at the Hamilton Psychiatric Hospital for 26 years before retiring, working her way up to Secretary to the Administrator (Frank Morin) before earning her B.A. in Sociology at McMaster University and becoming a Rehabilitation Counsellor.

For many decades, she enjoyed participating in the Binbrook Fall Fair, first as an exhibitor, entering her baking and craftwork, and then as a vendor selling her Watkins products.

She joined the Federated Women’s Institutes of Ontario later in life, eventually serving as president and secretary of the Binbrook W.I. She was also heavily involved in the Erland Lee Home – a National Historic Site of Canada and birthplace of the Women’s Institute – including time as chairperson of the museum’s committee before it closed in 2011. She worked diligently to fundraise and get it re-opened in 2013. Judith continued her commitment to the W.I. after moving to Beamsville, serving terms as president and advocacy coordinator.

Special thanks go to the team of doctors and nurses at West Lincoln Memorial Hospital and in the stroke unit at Hamilton General Hospital, especially Dr. Chan and Dr. Derek, whose empathy and patience were profoundly appreciated.

Church service and Celebration of Life: Will be held at 11 am on Tuesday, August 26 at Christ Church Woodburn, 1307 Woodburn Road, Hannon.
