POLYZOGOPOULOS, Theodora “Dora” Polyzogopoulos
September 30, 1938 - May 21, 2026
She is dedicated wife, loving mother and grandmother and cherished friend, passed away peacefully at the age of 87, surrounded by love.
Theodora “Dora” Polyzogopoulos is predeceased by her husband of 27 years, Dimitrios, and her beloved siblings Demetrios, Athanasia, Ioanna and Paraskevi. Dora is survived by her three children, John (Irene), Georgia (Chris), and Irine (Christopher), and her six grandchildren, Demetrios, Andriane, Daphne, Eva, Zak and Jasmine.
Born and raised in Athens, Greece, to parents Irene and George Marinopoulos, Dora was the eldest of five children and grew up during the hardships of WWII and the Greek Civil War. She left school at the age of 14 to work and help support her family, and over the years developed her skills as a talented dressmaker.
She carried those skills with her to Toronto when she made the brave decision to move here in 1970. By day, Dora worked for a reputable atelier on Bloor St. specializing in wedding gowns and bridesmaid dresses, and by night she attended English classes at George Brown College. It was there that she met her husband, Dimitrios, and they married in 1972.
Dora and Dimitrios welcomed their first child, John, in 1973, followed by Georgia in 1976 and Irine in 1977. For many years, Dora was a devoted homemaker, known to her children’s friends for her incredible home-cooked Greek meals and “Greek cookies”. In the early 1990s, when her children were teenagers, Dora became a home childcare provider and helped raise six more children, whom she loved as her own.
Dora was an avid gardener and could often be found tending to her flowers and vegetables at the family home in Scarborough. Though she later moved to the Broadview and Danforth area, she often spoke of her love for Scarborough, which she felt had provided the perfect place to raise her family.
Beyond her devotion to family and her many interests, Dora was a sharp and witty woman. Her sense of humour remained strong even through the health challenges she faced toward the end of her life. Her ability to laugh at life’s absurdities, coupled with her tenacity, enabled her to lead a full and meaningful life and leave behind a lasting legacy of love.
She will be deeply missed by her family and friends. May her final journey be a peaceful one, and her memory eternal.
