QUANTRILL, Charles George Francis Quantrill
December 20, 1936 - June 12, 2026He passed away suddenly at his home in Bowmanville on Friday, June 12, 2026.
Born and raised on the family farm in Kendal, Francis lived a life rooted in dedication, hard work, and family. In 1959, he married the love of his life, Janice and moved to Orono where they would spend the majority of their lives together. A builder at heart, Francis helped to build the family home they shared until his retirement, at which point he built a second home on their property. They remained there until moving to Bowmanville in 2012, later settling into their condo on Wellington Street in 2022.
Charles George Francis Quantrill had a long and respected career with the Ministry of Transportation, serving as the Project Supervisor of Highway Construction until his early retirement in 1991 at the age of 55.
A very quiet and reserved man, Francisβs love for his family was expressed not through loud words, but through his actions and the beautiful things he created. He was an exceptionally talented woodworker and craftsman. Over the years, Fran spent many hours lending a helping hand to family, friends and the community. His hobbies included gardening, building birdhouses, making cribs and dressers for his grandchildren and he crafted a bar and stools out of old whiskey barrels.
Francis was predeceased by his beloved children, Charles and Patricia, and his cherished granddaughter, Erin.
He leaves behind a rich legacy of love and quiet devotion. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Janice; his daughter, Karen (Steve) Young; his grandchildren, Kaitlyn (Alec) Murphy, Nicole (Kevin) Sandu, Megan (Eric) Young-Mielke, and Jason Quantrill; and his six great-grandchildren, Evander, Kieran, Kayden, Harlow, Casper and Norah.
