Surrounded by his family, Roy Kinghorn (87) of Halifax, NS, passed away unexpectedly on September 20th at QEII Hospital following emergency surgery.
Born in Antigonish, NS. He spent most of his life living in Halifax while spending 10 years in Toronto early in his career.
Roy lived a life marked by devotion, kindness, and a deep love for his family. He showed us how to be strong yet compassionate, ambitious and yet humble. While life without him feels unimaginable his lessons live on in us.
More than anything, Roy will be remembered as a devoted family man. He shared 65 years of marriage with his beloved wife, Carol (Grant) a milestone he was especially proud of. He was a loving father to his children Darlene and Paul (Cathy), and a cherished grandfather to Emma (Jacob Rhyno) and Amanda. Those who knew him will remember him as a sweet, kind, gentle man who loved his family more than anything in the world.
Predeceased by mother, Bertha Sterns, stepfather Russell Sterns, and sisters Ruth Humphrey, Marjorie Mason, Betty Mitchell, brother Ed Kinghorn, and son in law Ian Milley.
After graduation from Queen Elizabeth High School Roy went on to work for 32 years as an Account Executive with Imperial Oil, a career he completed with pride and dedication. After retirement, he embraced a new chapter as a real estate agent for 6 years with Royal LePage while also being active in purchasing and renting his own residential properties in Halifax for over 40 years. He claims he was gifted by being able to attract and maintain many great tenants.
Roy, Carol and the family are grateful to have spent many enjoyable winter seasons together at their Florida home in Sarasota.
His warmth and steady presence will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to know and love him. He certainly felt that he has been blessed with a great life. He was the anchor of our family, and he will live on in our hearts forever.
A celebration of life will be held on September 27th at J. Snow
Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax – 2pm – 4pm.
Private family burial service to be held at later date.
