Born in Oshawa in 1938 Russell McQuaid was the oldest son of Russell and Rhoda McQuaid. He married his wife Ruth in 1955; they have been married for 71 ½ years. Anyone who talked with Russ would have heard all about how proud he was of his family. Together they raised four children, Rusty (Linda), Ralph, Brenda and Garf (Kelly).
They have 10 grandchildren, Christine, Carrie, Stephanie(D), Katie, Sara, Kori, Melissa, Nicky, Amy and Kirk. Pa loved the visits from all his 14 great grands! Hayden, Raven, Brandon, Natalie, Colton, Nash, Wyatt, Emmett, Beau, Jase, Bella, Claire, Raelyn & Riggs.
The years he spent at Kawartha Downs racing his beloved horses were always his best stories. Among all his horses his favorite horse was Firm Grip and then came his homebred star Grips Son.
He is survived by his sisters, Kathy and Donna, his sisters in law, Terry, Penny (Chuck), Anne (Bill). He was predeceased by his sister Alberta (Bobby); his brothers, Roger, John, and Pete.
