RYAN-WHITTON, Janice Ann Ryan-Whitton

Passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 7, 2026, at her residence, the United Mennonite Home in Vineland.

Janice was born July 23, 1937, and raised in Notre-Dame-de-GrΓ’ce, Montreal, QC. Reunited with her beloved husband, Jim (James) Whitton, she will be lovingly remembered by her children: Trisha (Stephen), Tim (Jamie), Kevin, Erin, and SΓ©an; her grandchildren: Jason, Alexa, Tomas, David (Sonja), James (Claire), Jonathan (Megan), Kaila (Camille), Kieran (Clarissa), Jordan (Robyn), Jessica (Paul), and Mitchell (Brooke); and her great-grandchildren: Lylah, Cayden, Hazel, Sorin, Rosie, Benji, Chloe, Elodie, Oliver, Hazel and Asher. Janice will also be dearly missed by her siblings D’Arcy, Terry, Pat, Alannah and her extended family, including Maia, Joanne, and Anne Marie, her friends, and former students.

Janice began her career as a respected elementary school teacher on the West Island of Montreal, Quebec. In 1976, she moved with her family to Ontario, where she continued teaching, specializing in gifted learning programs. Janice had a lifelong love of teaching, reading, and learning, and continued to challenge herself by learning to read and speak Hebrew. She also hosted many discussion groups in her home, where she built a strong and lasting network of friends.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff at the United Mennonite Home in Vineland, where Mom spent the last four years of her life. She truly enjoyed her time there and was deeply cared for by the staff. We are especially grateful to the nurses and PSWs for their kindness and compassion β€” not a day went by without someone stopping in to say hello, offer a hug, or give a gentle kiss on the forehead. We wish we could thank each of you individually and hope you know how much we appreciated everything you did for our Mom.

A celebration of Janice’s life will be held in Mississauga at a later date.
