SANGSTER, Charles “Chub” Lyman Sangster
October 3, 1939 - March 21, 2026We, the family of Charles “Chub” Lyman Sangster, announce the passing of our beloved father, father-in-law, grandfather, brother, uncle and good friend to many, at Woodingford Lodge, Woodstock, at the age of 86. Born in Tillsonburg, son of the late Ross and the late former Melva (Slaught) Sangster. Predeceased by his much-loved wife of 64 years, Ann Marie (Bartlett) Sangster (Aug. 5, 2024).
Chub will be dearly missed by his children and their families: Laurel Sergeant (Orv Clark and his children Tess and Emily), of Tillsonburg and Shayni (Tom Tokarczyk), of Brantford. Always a loving grandfather and great-grandfather to Victoria Sergeant (Jesse Goossens) and their children Penny and Arthur; Olivia Karouanas (Harris) and their child Casper; Ethan Tokarczyk; Christian Tokarczyk. Also survived by his brother Don (Kim) Sangster, of Dorchester and his children Michael (Michelle) and Rick (Carolynne); sister Dorothy Popham and her children John (Elizabeth), Coralee (Brad) and Connie (Tim); sister-in-law Mary Ellen (Clay) Waghorne, of Burlington and their children Brett and Jeff. Also survived by great-nieces, nephews and cousins. Predeceased by his son-in-law Brad Sergeant (2014) and his brother-in-law Jack Popham (2017).
Chub will be fondly remembered as a devoted family man, entrepreneur, and spirited personality whose warmth and humor touched all who knew him. He had a deep love for curling, fishing, swimming, and photography, passions that shaped both his personal life and career. Chub began as the manager of the IGA in Tillsonburg, where his creativity earned him several display awards, including recognition from Kraft Canada, before moving on to become a regional sales manager with Frito Lay Canada. Combining his natural sales ability with his passion for photography, he later opened The Snap Shoppe in the Town Centre Mall, dedicating himself fully to its success and achieving his goal of retiring at the age of 50. In retirement, Chub embraced life fully, making wine, travelling with Ann, and cherishing time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who will always remember his playful, teasing nature and the joy he brought to their lives.
A private family Graveside Service will be held at a later date in the Sangster Family Plot of Straffordville Cemetery. Friends, neighbours and relatives are invited to share favourite memories and photos, send personal condolences or contribute memorial donations to the “Alzheimer Society” via Chub’s online tribute page at www.verhoevefuneralhomes.com or by contacting the Maurice J.
