SARGINSON, Verna Doreen Sarginson

It is with heavy hearts and profound love that we announce the passing of Verna Doreen Sarginson (nee Stapley), at the age of 88. She passed away peacefully in the early morning hours on Sunday June 21st, 2026.

Born on July 10th, 1937 in Thurlow, Hastings County to Wilfred Greg Stapley and Fanny Isabell Stapley. Verna had one younger sister Linda and a younger brother Dougie (who passed away at a young age). Verna grew up in Belleville and graduated from Belleville Collegiate Institute and Vocational School. She went on to earn a degree as a Health Care Aid.

On April 2, 1955, she married the love of her life, Royce William Sarginson, and together they built a life in Bowmanville, ON. They raised four children and shared 61 years of marriage. Verna worked at Strathaven Nursing Home, in Bowmanville for a number of years but then decided to dedicate her life to raising her wonderful children. Once retired, Verna and Royce spent life in their two favourite places; The Family Cottage in Barry’s Bay, ON and Punta Gorda, FL to escape the harsh Canadian winters. Verna was known for her fierce devotion to her family, her hospitality to all friends and family and dedication to the Church.

Verna loved reading, cooking, traveling, and playing cards and games with friends and family. She was a member of New Fellowship Church, in Purdy and Trulls Road Free Methodist, in Courtice. Above all, she cherished time with her family and friends especially at the cottage and in Florida where the door was always open to visitors.

She is survived by her children: Karen Preston (Helmet), Brian Sarginson (Kimberly), Steven Sarginson (Shannon), Daughter in law; Audrey. Her grandchildren; Melissa, Jason, Rachel, Cheryl, Catherine, Brooke, Kaylyn, Justin, Stephanie, Grace and Samantha; many Great-Grandchildren and even a few Great-Great-Grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her loving husband Royce, Sister; Linda, Brother; Dougie, Son; James Sarginson and Grandson; Bradley Sarginson.

A Funeral Service will be held on Sunday, June 28th, 2026 at 11am (Visitation), Service to begin at 12pm at Northcutt Elliott Funeral Home, 53 Division Street North, Bowmanville, ON. A light lunch will follow.

Burial will take place in Bancroft at a date to be determined.
