Donald Leslie Smith, 75, of Newcastle, ON passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on June 18th, 2025, at Scarborough General Hospital, after a courageous battle with Pulmonary Fibrosis.
He was born to the late Merrill and Doris Smith, on August 8th, 1949, in Sherbrooke, PQ. Beloved husband to his wife, Carol, of 40 years. Loving father to his son Jeremy (Katie). Adoring Pappy to his beautiful grandchildren, Ronan and Claire. Loving brother to Cheryl (Richard), Debra (Ronald) and Jody (Kathy). Caring uncle to his many nieces and nephews.
He was known for his patented storytelling, sense of humour, and love of animals (especially his dogs). He was always recognized as a loyal friend to many, including those at Islandview Trailer Park in Coboconk, ON. He was a talented artist, skilled fisherman, and a classic car enthusiast.
The family would like to thank the Scarborough Health Network, the medical staff at Scarborough General and Centenary Hospitals, and all family and friends for their care and support in his later years.
To honour Donald’s wishes, cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Scarborough Health Network would be appreciated by the family. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, July 12th, 2025, from 12 to 3 p.m. at the Newcastle Funeral Home (386 Mill St. S., Newcastle ON L1B 1C6).
