SMITH, Louise Charlene Smith

She peacefully passed away at Markham Stouffville Hospital, on Thursday, May 28th, 2026 surrounded by her family, at the age of 86.

It is with broken hearts and beautiful memories that we share the passing of our extraordinary mother, grandma and great-grandma, Louise Charlene Smith, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Louise was peacefully reunited in Heaven with her beloved husband, Ronald John, who predeceased her in May 2023.

Mom was a bright light in the lives of everyone she touched. She possessed a fierce sense of pride, a beautiful smile, a hilarious sense of humour, and a caring heart that loved without conditions. She taught us how to be independent and compassionate. While the world feels a little dimmer without her in it, we are grateful for the incredible privilege of calling her our mother, grandma, great-grandma. Mom cherished reading, her many wonderful friends, the joy she found in life, her marvellous hobbies, and time spent with her family. She will be deeply missed by her sisters, Carol and Elaine, and was predeceased by her brothers, Doug and Blair.

Louise was the cherished wife of Ronald Smith, beloved mom of Julia Matys and Janet (Sam) Montesano, loving grandma of Joshua (Uno) Montesano, Matthew Matys, and Emily (Blair) Malfara, delighted great-grandma of Rowan Smith Malfara, and soon to arrive baby Montesano.

While our hearts our heavy, we are comforted knowing our mom is finally free from pain and at peace. Her love, strength, and beautiful memories will remain in our hearts forever.

The family would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to Dr. Trinkaus, Dr. Patterson, Dr. Otal and her palliative nurse Siranthini for their compassionate care and support.

As per her wishes, a private celebration of life will be held for close family at a later date.
