STERLING, Maureen Elaine Sterling

Maureen Elaine Sterling, “Elaine”, passed away peacefully at age 92 on June 4, 2025 in Barrie, Ontario, where she had lived for the past nine years.

Born in Rocanville, Saskatchewan, Elaine was a dedicated nurse, world traveler, passionate mother, grandmother, and friend. She began her nursing career in North Bay, Ontario, and retired after 23 years at York Regional Hospital in Newmarket, working in labour and delivery—her “happiest place in the hospital.”

Married to Rod Sterling in 1955, she raised four children and lived in Brazil and Chile before settling in Aurora, Ontario. In later years, she found love again with Jack Heffernan until his passing in 2004. She enjoyed golfing, curling, travelling, cards, fitness, and was always up for an adventure.

Elaine is survived by her children Randy, Janet, Judy, and Ron; eight grandsons; four great-grandchildren; and many cherished extended family and friends. She was predeceased by partner Jack Heffernan and grandson Benjamin Chandler.
