It is with deep sadness that the family announces the passing of
Mary Alma Sternik on August 14, 2025, in Chatham, Ontario, at the age of 96. Born in Toronto to Florence and Bruce Samis, Alma married the love of her life, George Sternik, on October 11, 1956.
Alma was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She is survived by her children Gerard (Bernadette), Mary-Anne (Paul), Suzanne (Stephen), and Joanne (Michael); her grandchildren River Sternik, Michael and Ryan Dang, Sarah (Thomas), David, James, Christopher, and Joseph Lozinski, Katey (Conner), Thomas, Mary, Theresa, and Bridget Bondy; and great-grandchildren Elizabeth Alma and William Greenway, and Maria Alma Zucchi. She is predeceased by her husband George, and her son Stephen Bruce.
An active member of her community and the Basilian Lay Associates, Alma was admired for her love of the arts, mysteries, and her gift of storytelling.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, August 16, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at
Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, Chatham, Ontario.
Interment will follow on Monday, August 18, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at
Holy Cross Cemetery, Markham, Ontario.
In lieu of flowers, Masses may be offered for the repose of Alma’s soul.
