She went to be with the Lord on April 1, 2026, at Bastion Place in Salmon Arm, BC, at the age of 92 (22, for those of us who knew and loved her).

Born to the late Francis and Adah Stephens, she was the sixth of eight children – born in the family home on December 24th… A Christmas gift!

Growing up in Macklin held many happy memories for Val, mainly due to the love, support, and encouragement of her parents. A happy childhood memory for Mom was when she and her sister Hazel turned cartwheels down the main street in their red and green snowsuits. Val attended North End School, Macklin School, and took senior matriculation at Alberta College in Edmonton. She then took three years of nurse’s training at St Elizabeth Hospital School of Nursing in Humboldt, SK. After obtaining her R.N. she worked briefly at Macklin Hospital before moving to Prince Rupert, BC, to work at the Prince Rupert General Hospital.

In 1958, Val married Vaughan in Prince Rupert, where they resided for 48 years before moving to Kelowna.

Phyliss Valerie Tattersall is survived by her sister Hazel; and her children Debbie (Malcolm), Steve (Nikki), Brian, and Scott (Patti); her ten grandchildren Lauren, Steve, Adam, Michael, Andrew, Lisa, Kate, Darien, Jordyn and Ryan; and her nine great-grandchildren Halle, Luke, Emmett, Reuben, Landon, Connor, Grayson, Quinn, and Kael.

Val loved her family, and she will be remembered for her wicked sense of humour, and her spunk.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to BC Children’s Hospital, in Mom’s memory.

A private memorial service will be held to honour Valerie. If you are not attending in person, the family warmly welcomes you to join online by Livestream on SUNDAY, MAY 10, 2026, at 10:00 AM (PT); a recording will be made available to view within three to five days.
