TAYLOR, Florence Josephine Taylor

November 29, 1925 - June 26, 2026
TAYLOR, Florence Josephine Taylor

Passed away peacefully in her sleep on June 26, 2026. She was the loving wife of Herb Taylor (died March 19, 2009) and mother of Michael (and Ronda) Taylor and Lawrence (and Tish) Taylor. She was the much loved grandmother of Jessica (and Josh) and Kyle (and Hadassa), and Chris and Alex Taylor. Florence was the great grandmother of Raphael, Yael, Hannah, Naftali and Marcus. Florence was the daughter of Angelo and Josephine Larinde, the sister of Bill Larinde, and aunt of Mark Larinde.

Florence Josephine Taylor and Herb (married April 19, 1954) shared an amazingly adventurous life. Florence was born more than 100 years ago on November 29, 1925 in Premier, British Columbia, a former gold mining camp located in northwestern British Columbia, near the Alaska border.

She began her journalism career as a reporter for what is now the Victoria Times Colonist newspaper. She then took a train ride across the country to work at the Ottawa Citizen Newspaper, where she was hired by Esther Waring, who would become one of her many lifelong friends. She met Herb, the love of her life, in Ottawa and got married at the home of Elsa and Steven Franklin, who would also become lifelong friends. Herb’s film and television production career took them to Manchester, England where, in 1958, their son Lawrence was born. On to Bandung, Indonesia, where, in 1960, Michael was born. They moved back to Canada and eventually, retired in Newcastle. Ontario.

Along their journey through life, Florence and Herb loved, and became loved, by their friends and neighbours. Unfortunately Herb passed away at just 81 years old .Florence moved back to Toronto and spent the last 17 of her 100 years without her beloved husband. Thankfully she was surrounded by family and friends including her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Florence had a remarkable ability to truly enjoy life to its fullest. She looked forward to being with her friends and family, watching tennis, especially her other love, Roger Federer, and being engaged in every aspect daily life. She lived on her own and enjoyed cooking her meals, from scratch, throughout her 100 years.

We are eternally grateful for the care and support of Dr. Kotzer and his staff, her loving caregivers including Remy, Dalia, Tanya and her daughter Kyla, Jhezzalyn, April, Jerry and Laurel, the staff of the Shirley and Philip Granovsky Palliative Care Unit at the Baycrest Hospital where Florence passed away in Toronto. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Baycrest Foundation https://baycrestfoundation.org/ 416-785-2875 or the charity of your choice would be appreciated.

The family is having a private funeral service.
