It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Peter John Upton, surrounded by his adoring family, at Hospice Peterborough on April 29, 2025, at the age of 74.
Cherished husband of 50 years to Jo-Anne (née Brown). Loving father to Jeffrey (Christine), Peter “Alex” (Lynda), and Jennifer Hobbs (Kevin). Peter found immense joy in his grandchildren—Owen, Ben, Brinley, Blake, Briar, and Kade—and was a devoted companion to his bestie, Doggie.
He was predeceased by his parents, Kenneth John Upton and Constance Arabel Upton (née Brown), and will be dearly missed by his siblings Lucy (Norm), Elaine (predeceased Stew), Karla, Craig (Suzy), Donna (Graham), and Stephen. A kindred spirit to brothers-in-law Jim (Daphne) and David Brown (Lorraine), Peter was also deeply loved by his many nieces and nephews, who cherished his humour and generous spirit.
A lifelong friend to Pam and Steve Haslam, and John Oswell, Peter’s love for his family and friends was his guiding light. He enjoyed traveling, hosting family gatherings, and spending peaceful days at the cottage in Coboconk. Annual camp trips with his cousins and “the lads” held a special place in his heart.
A devoted fan of Gordon Lightfoot, Peter was also known for restoring his beloved 1974 TR6, riding Harleys, and lending his considerable handyman skills to anyone in need. His famous “Papa Petie-isms” and affection for the colour orange will be warmly remembered.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 6, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Low & Low Funeral Home, 1763 Reach Street, Port Perry. A private Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
