Passed away peacefully at the Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital in his 99th year. Beloved husband and best friend of Irene Whitney for 42 years. Loving father of Marty (Karen), Murray (Patricia), Anne Locke (Karl), and Ellen Whitney.

Proud Grandpa of John (Sabrina), Jacob (Anna), Jared Whitney, Whitney (Nick), and Devon Locke. Predeceased by his parents Edgar and Orma Whitney, and siblings Isobel Thompson (Robert) and Mary Barbara Johnson (Len). Fondly remembered by nieces Dorthea Hangaard, Jane Thompson, and nephew Robert Thompson.

Norm was also lovingly remembered by Irene’s family: Leanne McSorley (Peter), Alanna McSorley-Burke (Jeff), Ed McSorley (Chrissy), and Brad McSorley (Cathy), as well as numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, including Chloe, Jacques, Ophelia, Josephine, Lennon, Grey, Brice, Bennett, Isabella, Autumn, Grace, and Mila.

Norm proudly served in the Navy at age 18, later joining Bell Canada for 25 years before retiring to farm Black Angus cattle. He was active in the community, serving on the Mara School Board, Township of Ramara Council, and the Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital Board, where he was Chairman for 3 years.

The family is grateful to Drs. David and Sheila Collins, Dr. Devon Bhatt, Karen LoRusso (RMT), Bayshore nurses, and many PSWs for their care and laughter shared with Norm. Special thanks to Sarah Stevenson (RMT) and Carol for their dedication.

Visitation: Saturday, May 24, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. at Simcoe Funeral Home, 38 James Street East, Orillia.

Service: 12:00 noon in the chapel, followed by a reception.

Interment: Atherley Cemetery, following the reception.
