Ruth Marilyn Wood passed away peacefully at Royal Victoria Hospital, surrounded by family, on Sunday, August 10, 2025, in her 91st year. Born in Ottawa to Gertrude and Harry Hopper, Ruth lived a long and full life marked by deep kindness and a wonderful sense of humour.

Married to John in August 1957, the couple shared over 60 years together. Ruth was a talented baker, spending countless hours creating delicious desserts for family and friends. She also had a passion for politics, with many of her “Letters to the Editor” published in newspapers locally and across Canada.

Ruth is now reunited with her beloved husband, John. She is the loving mother of Gregory (Angela) and Catherine (Andrew), cherished grandmother of Noah, and dear sister of John Hopper (Barbara) and the late Barbara Cameron. She will be deeply missed by her lifelong friends.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to the staff at RVH, Grove Park Home, and the personal support workers who cared for Ruth. A graveside service will take place on Monday, August 18, 2025, at 11:30 a.m. at Barrie Union Cemetery, 338 Sunnidale Rd., Barrie. Reception to follow from 1:00–2:30 p.m. at Steckley-Gooderham Funeral Home, 30 Worsley St., Barrie.
