Lorna Wright passed in the early morning hours of July 23rd, just one week short of her 94th birthday, very much on her own terms, and in the company of her loving children. Mom was one of those moms who was called mom by many people other than her own kids. She was matriarch to entire neighborhoods in her younger years, and to an entire condo building of fellow residents in her sunset years.
So it’s fair to say that even though her beloved husband, Harry, her twin sister, Leone, her brothers Bruce and Bob, and many friends passed before her, there are still so many people who will mourn her loss that it’s impossible to name them all. Her eldest son, Gary, his wife June, their children, Lyndsay and Shelby, and Lorna’s great grandchildren Charlotte and Sebastian will miss her contagious laugh, her kindness, and of course, her world class butter tarts.
Her daughter Debbie will feel a void after years of constant contact with mom, but will be comforted by her memory, along with her husband, Rae, their children Lee and Nicole, and Lorna’s great grandchildren, Daegan, Ewan, Callum and Griffin. Her daughter Sharon, along with her children Aidan and Siobhan (who was a kind and loving caregiver to her Gramma in her last days and months) will cherish the memory of mom’s love and support, especially after the loss of Sharon’s husband, Dermot, who passed far too soon.
Youngest son Brad will miss their weekly phone calls. His wife Debra, their children Tessa and Kayla, and Gigi’s newest great grandson, Felix, will be forever grateful for the time they were able to spend with mom last summer. Nieces and nephews, Sherry, Judy, James, Jason and Michael will feel her loss too.
Lorna will live on forever in her artwork. There are more paintings hanging on more walls of friends and family than even she could remember: landscapes, portraits, horses, lions and tigers, but especially dogs. Mom never met a dog she couldn’t paint, so long as she could see kindness in their eyes. And she was good. Really good.
Lorna loved her family above all, especially her husband, Harry, who she cared for as long as humanly possible. She loved her time and friends in Barbados, and she loved her Sunset Cove community, grateful for their support, especially April, who did so much for her. Lorna Wright would be the first to tell you she was a force of nature. And she was right.
