ZIVONTSIS, George Zivontsis

It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved father, cherished Pappou, and great-grandfather, George Zivontsis, who passed away surrounded by his loving family at Chester Village, on May 31, 2026, at the age of 96.

George was the loving husband of Athanassia, devoted father to Peter (Nataliya) and Sophie, proud and deeply cherished Pappou to Suzan (Michael) and Lexi, and a loving great-grandfather to Jett James.

George Zivontsis was born in Florina, Greece on February 24, 1930, and immigrated to Canada in 1951, where he met and married the love of his life, Athanassia. Together, they built a beautiful family. Throughout his life and through his many businesses, he was a trailblazer within the Greek community of Toronto. His passion for politics, his hometown of Florina, and his love for Canada were defining parts of who he was. He was later affectionately dubbed the ‘Mayor of the Danforth’ by Dennis Mills. George left a lasting impression on everyone who crossed his path, sharing his vibrant personality, and infectious laughter with all who knew him.

George was predeceased by his parents, Speros and Fani; his brothers, Dimitrios (Anthoula), Christos (Evgenia), and Theodoros; his brother-in-law Christos and is survived by his sister, Eleni (Nitsa), and sister-in-law, Rita. Above all else, George was devoted to his family and friends, as well as his many nephews, nieces, and their families (Bratsalis, Gastis, Tsionas, Tsoukarellis). Gatherings and time spent together were always abundant with great food, music, laughter, and, most of all, dancing.

We will hold tightly to the beautiful memories he leaves behind and cherish them always until we meet again. Dad, you will be deeply missed and forever loved. As we all know, true love never dies, it only grows stronger.
