Foote JohnFOOTE, John 'Jack' Dunlop - With much sadness we announce the passing of Jack Foote at the age of 90, in St. Joseph’s Hospital, Toronto on Saturday, August 25, 2018.

Born to parents Mary (nee Dunlop) and William Foote in Glasgow, Scotland on April 21, 1928, he served, as a teenager, in the Merchant Marines near the end of WWII and later joined the British Royal Marines attaining the rank of Lance Corporal with the 45th Commandos, an elite fighting group.

Jack was a cyclist, boxer, mountain climber and a competitive ballroom dancer with his beloved partner Barbara (Babs).

In 1959, wanting to provide better opportunities for his family, he brought wife Babs and four young children to Canada, where they settled in Mimico.

He was an avid lacrosse fan who also coached for many years in the Mimico Lacrosse organization and later with Brampton and also worked with the Toronto Shooting Stars.  Although he had many friends in the lacrosse community, he was proudest of the Mimico Juvenile teams he coached, particularly, the 'Dirty Dozen'.  Jack served as President of the Mimico Lacrosse Alumni Club for many years and was an inductee into the Mimico Lacrosse Hall of Fame.
Although he was a loyal and passionate Scot with a 'street-fighter' approach to life, Jack was extremely generous with both his time and possessions.  He was also an entertaining conversationalist and host who regaled many visitors to the 'house' with his stories and anecdotes.
He was a skilled tradesman and gas fitter, and held a variety of jobs with companies such as Consumer Gas, Molson’s and Anaconda/Arrowhead.  In the 70’s, Jack ran his own courier business, Algoma Delivery (Alpha Base to Alpha One!).

Jack is predeceased by his son David and his loving wife Barbara. He will be dearly missed by: his children William (Wende), James (Lauren), Deborah McIlwee (Jim), Jacqueline Hodgson (Scott), and Graeme (Michelle); his 10 grandchildren Cullan, Crysti, Julie, Cameron, Gavin, Duncan, Darcy, Jesse, Alexandra and Isabella; as well as nieces and nephews and many wonderful friends.

Visitation will take place on Tuesday, August 28 from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m and on Wednesday, August 29 from 10 a.m. – 11 a.m. with a service to follow at Ridley Funeral Home, 3080 Lakeshore Blvd. W., Etobicoke.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation.
