Milrod SamMILROD, Dr. Sam - Passed away peacefully on August 25, 2018, at the age of 99, at home in his own bed where he wanted to be.

Beloved husband of 70 years (70 years "plus", as Sam would say) to Joyce Milrod (passed away Nov 2017).

Loving son of the late Max and Esther Milrod.

Loving father and father-in-law of the late Wendy Sassaman, and Leslie Milrod and Jonathan Guss, and Linda Milrod and Stephen Grant.

Dear brother and last sibling of Benjamin Milrod, Gertrude Gotlieb, Ralph Milrod, and David Milrod.

Devoted grandfather of Hannah and Josh, Esther and David, Corey, Jacob and Misty, Jesse and Becca, Carrie, Solomon, and Ben.

Devoted great-grandfather of Sarah Bela and Abby Rose, and treasured uncle of his loving nieces and nephews.

"Sam", "Papa Sam", "Papa", was a highly-skilled and innovative surgeon (when asked "what kind of doctor were you", he would answer "a good one"); a WWII Veteran who got his first surgical training in the battle field; a highly accomplished classical pianist and devotee of classical music; a master duplicate bridge player; and a gracious, gentle, modest man for whom family was everything. (When asked to describe his main accomplishments, Sam would say without skipping a beat: "I married beautifully", and then, "I am far more proud of the accomplishments of my children and grandchildren than my own").

The family is deeply grateful to Dr. Gemini Tanna and her team, and the dedicated care givers who made a profound difference to the quality of Papa Sam's final days.

He will be greatly missed and never forgotten by those who loved him dearly.

At Benjamin's Park Memorial Chapel, Toronto for service on Friday, August 31, 2018 at 11:30 a.m. Interment in the Holy Blossom section of Pardes Shalom Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to Canadian Hadassah, WIZO c/o The Milrod/Sassaman Endowment, 416-630-8373 or The Sunnybrook Hospital Foundation, for the Sunnybrook Dialysis Unit, 416-480-4483.
