Stephens JoanSTEPHENS, Joan Ella - November 8, 1924 - January 3, 2019 - It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Joan Ella Stephens on Thursday January 3, 2019 at Princess Margaret Hospital in Toronto.

Joan is predeceased by her husband Ralph Stephens (1989), her sister Dorothy Green (2017) and her nieces Tisha and Caroline and nephew Stuart.

Joan is survived by her brother David Sharpe (Sue); her son Robin Stephens, her daughter Elizabeth Doll (Michael), her Granddaughter Rachael Doll (Adam), her Grandson Conor Doll and many nieces, nephews and cousins in England and the United States.

Joan married the love of her life Ralph Stephens on May 22, 1947. They moved from England to Canada in 1947. Their lives together saw them live in England, Aden and many parts of Canada before settling in Montreal and finally Toronto, close to their family.

Joan was a free spirit who loved to travel with her husband and her family. Her joie de vivre and positive spirit were infectious to all those who knew her, and her ability to embrace every new port she landed in and literally fall in love with each new place made her a marvelous travel companion.

Joan was a very driven person in the business world as she carved herself a long and successful business career as a Corporate Legal Specialist in Montreal for over 30 years.

One of Joan's great passions in life was playing Duplicate Bridge. From being President of the Montreal Bridge Unit, to becoming a force to be reckoned with in the Toronto Bridge community. She was an avid reader, who's command of the English language was the envy of most who knew her.

Joan's ability to try new things and stay current with world events and keep an open mind towards all things and situations allowed her to stay young at heart until the very end. She was very wise and her sage advice was a benefit to everyone who took advantage of it. Joan was such a unique individual anyone who met her was a better person for it. It is with great sorrow in our hearts and love and grand memories in our heads that we remember Joan.

Services will be held at Am Shalom Synagogue Monday January 7, 2019 at 11:00 a.m..

The family requests that donations be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, in lieu of flowers.
