LATIMER, Thomas 'Tom' Alfred - It is with great sadness that we share news of the death of Tom Latimer, retired TV production editor, who died suddenly and unexpectedly on December 27, 2018, while shopping in downtown Toronto just days before his 78th birthday.
Tom was born on January 1st, 1941 in Calcutta, India to parents of Anglo-Indian heritage who ran a jute business.
From the age of five years old, he attended a prep boarding school: Down Hill in Kurseong, and in 1948 a boys’ boarding school: St Joseph’s college, North Point, Darjeeling.
In 1958 Tom emigrated to the UK, settling in Chalfont, Buckinghamshire. Upon arrival, Tom, who was now 18, joined the RAF wanting to train as a pilot. He signed up for nine years but bought himself out after two. He then joined the BBC. Tom’s early life made him no stranger to big changes, and to big challenges.
Tom embarked on a career in film production, and his intense interest in the world around him and his innate talent for visual storytelling led to a long career as a film and TV editor.
If there had been a survey of his friends and family, he would have been voted most likely to live to a hundred. He had so much drive, determination, energy and enthusiasm for life.
Tom was a loving brother to David and Langford, and a proud uncle of eight nieces and nephews: Sherry, Karen, Gail, Cathryn, Kevin, Kim, Robin and Darren. He was a valued colleague, remembered by all his co-workers with great affection, and he was a dear friend. He will be profoundly missed.
A funeral service will be held at the Morley Bedford Funeral Home, Toronto on Monday, January 14th at 12 p.m. Reception to follow.
