SMYTH, Martin John  -  Whether working through the night to bake his sister's wedding cake, crafting intricate origami gift boxes for Christmas or building handmade furniture for family and friends, Martin's creative spark, keen mind and generous heart touched all who knew him.

His dry wit snuck up on you, making you laugh when you needed it most. Always eager and ready to lend a hand or an ear, Martin's kindness and beautiful spirit enriched the lives of those around him.

His son, Spencer Ambrose (Lovely), and grandson, Elijah, were the lights of his life, brightening his days, especially when they darkened near the end.

Martin is also survived by his parents, Anne and Bernard Smyth; his three sisters, Deborah Murnaghan (Guy), Theresa Smyth, Stephana Morin (Michael Ray); his niece, Melissa Morin (Justin Cameron); great-nephew, George Cameron; and nephew, Nelson Smyth.

Visitation will be held at McDougall and Brown Funeral Home on Friday, July 12, 2019  from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Memorial Service will follow at 11:00 a.m., and a reception from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. As a tribute to Martin, you are invited to wear Birkenstocks (or sandals).

In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada or the Canadian Cancer Society.

It broke our hearts to lose you
But you didn’t go alone.
Part of us went with you
The day God called you home
