Correia QuiteriaCORREIA, Quiteria do Carmelo Alves Rocha - Passed away on Thursday, Septembr 12, 2019.

Born on the 10th of July 1935, she was the second child of Mateus da Rocha Vaz and Virginia da Eucaristia Alves Rocha both of whom have predeceased her along with her older sister Maria Norvinda Rocha Avila. She was born in the village of Cinco Ribeiras on the island of Terceira Acores Portugal. As a young woman she cared for her invalid mother and she also worked as a seamstress.

She was married to David Cardoso Correia in Terceira on September 15, 1974. David was widowed with two small children who had a home in Canada. After their marriage, Quiteria and her new family came to Canada to start a new life together.  Quiteria became a proud Canadian citizen.  She also made every effort to promote her Portuguese culture both in her community and in her home. She hosted many events at her home for family and friends.

Quiteria worked very hard with her husband in his business and in raising their two children. The family also enjoyed spending many summer vacations with her sister’s family Norvinda in Terceira Portugal.

Quiteria had a passion to create and design clothing, she belonged to the choir at St. Helen’s Church and loved to sing.  Her other passion was to travel.  David and Quiteria enjoyed many trips together.  She embraced, and enjoyed life fully.  Sadly, towards the end of her life she had several health issues, but remained optimistic, and never forgot about others who were also suffering.

Those who knew her were fortunate to have met someone who was generous with her time, considerate of others, and brought joy and humour to social gatherings.  She was her happiest surrounded by family and friends. The memories of her shall be cherished. She will be missed and forever in our hearts.

Visitation will be held at Cardinal Funeral Home, Bathurst Chapel, Toronto on Sunday, September 15, 2019 from 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM - 9:00 PM. The service wil  take place at St. Helen's Roman Catholic Church, 1680 Dundas St W, Toronto on September 16, 2019 at 9:00 AM.
