ELDER, Patricia Anne (nee Charbonneau) - (September 15, 1946 - March 12, 2020)
It is with great sadness and after a lengthy illness that Pat subsided to her disease. She was born on Sept. 15, 1946 in Calabogie, Ontario and died on March 12, 2020 in Newmarket, Ontario.
Predeceased by her parents Bob and Edola. She will be sadly missed by her husband John after 44 years together, sisters Margaret, Mary Lou, Karen and brothers Michael and Chris.
Also survived by step sons Rich (Lori), Jim (Joanne), Gary (Jennifer), Dan (Jennifer) and grandchildren Chris, Jessie, Ryan, Alana, Logan, Mat, Kyle, Nicole and Brooke. Great grandmother to Brenna, Will, and Sarah. She will be fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews and friends.
Pat attended school in Calabogie and Renfrew and went to St. Michael’s Hospital to graduate as an R.N. in 1967. She was very proud of her black band and her nursing cap. She worked at Scarborough General Hospital in Emergency and on the I.V. Team for many years.
Pat engaged in many sports such as skiing and boating. Many years of sailing in Georgian Bay and the Caribbean Islands. Her favourite sport was tennis and in her later years, she became a very passionate player striving to win as many games as possible. She played golf in spite of not being a fan of the sport. She did not swim much and said, “The only water she liked was in her drinks."
Pat was an avid bridge player with various groups but mainly the King area. This group was very much sought out by others to join. There were several trips to San Trope for a week of bridge and some tennis in a private villa overlooking the Mediterranean Sea.
She loved to cook and entertain company. Christmas was a sit down dinner serving 25-35 relatives and friends, all of which she prepared. Pat travelled a lot with family and friends. There were many foreign trips to Hong Kong, Thailand, Singapore, Caribbean Islands, Mexico, Europe, England, U.S. and across Canada. She enjoyed biking in Dordogne, Normandy and southern France.
Pat was a brave lady, dispite her physical discomfort. She portrayed a special bravery to the end, with her upbeat, positive personality. Always interested and caring for others, the world around her, and sought out for sound advice.
A special thanks to the doctors, nurses, and support staff for all of their loving and caring support at Southlake Regional Health Centre, Newmarket, especially in the Palliative Care Unit.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Thompson Funeral Home, 530 Industrial Parkway South, Aurora.
