Blatchford RobertaBLATCHFORD, Roberta Ann - (April 16, 1946 - April 5, 2020)

It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Roberta Ann Blatchford of Richmond Hill, Ontario, at Sunrise Senior Living on Sunday, April 5, 2020

Daughter of the late Lucelle and Robert Starkey.

Beloved wife of Wayne for 54 years. Proud mother of Michelle Schmidt (Scott) and Michael (Heather).

Adoring grandmother of Emma, Ethan, Nathan and Isla. Deeply missed and loved by sisters Heather Saunders and Laura Murray (Martin) and brother-in-law Chris Blatchford (Rita) as well as nephews Ashton and Dalton Murray, and Joe (Janet) Lewis.

Affectionately known to those closest to her as “Berta” and “Burpsy,” Roberta was born in Belfast, Ireland, and immigrated to Canada at the age of eight, with her family, living first in King City, then settling permanently in Aurora.

As a young woman, Roberta obtained her Registered Practical Nurse diploma and went on to work at Aurora’s Cobblestone Nursing Home, owned by her parents, for several years before starting her family and devoting herself to homemaking.

When her children, Michelle and Michael, were grown, Roberta joined the workforce again, this time at Scholastic Canada, where she remained until her retirement in 2013.

Roberta was a loyal friend to many. Those who knew her will remember with fondness how impeccably put together she always was, never missing an opportunity to don a little ‘bling’.

There are countless memories of Roberta we will all hold dear. We will forever treasure the incredible feasts she prepared for family gatherings and her insatiable love of chocolate, which was guaranteed to be incorporated into any meal (much to the delight of her grandkids!) as well as her talented needlework and love of music.

Roberta lived a full and rich life, devoted to her family. Despite the increasing physical limitations she faced in recent years as a result of Parkinson’s, she remained a graceful lady.

Due to the current global circumstances, a celebration of life will held in her honour at a later date. Friends planning an expression of remembrance are asked to consider Parkinson Canada or donating to a local hospital to help in the fight against the Coronavirus crisis.

Arrangements with Thompson funeral home, Aurora, Ontario.
