Byrne MargaretBYRNE, Margaret Ann - (February 28, 1945May 13, 2020) - Margaret Ann Byrne passed away suddenly Wednesday morning while out walking with her long time neighbour and friend.

A lifelong resident of Toronto, Margaret was born into a large Irish Catholic family. With a strong head for numbers, she spent most of her career working in the credit department at Sears Canada and later Wells Fargo. Marg used those strong math skills as the family financier.

Marg married her only love Gerald (Gus) Byrne in April of 1963 and started her family shortly after. The calm other half to Gus’s fiery personality, Margaret loved Gus fiercely and missed him every day following his passing in 2011.

A loving mother to three, and grandmother to five, Marg always went above and beyond to celebrate her loved ones during the holidays and on birthdays. Marg worked hard to create a home filled with love, favourite treats, lottery scratch tickets and Loblaws red velvet cakes for everyone who came to visit.

As a grandmother, Marg was full of fun. Whether it be mini sticks in the living room or playing school with the stuffed animals, Marg was always all in.

In spite of not loving to cook herself, Marg enjoyed Wednesdays spent with her friends at cooking class. With an unquenchable sweet tooth, there may have been nothing Marg loved more than a bake sale with homemade fudge. She maintained a close relationship with her sister, marked by many Saturday afternoons of shopping and lunch. A fierce sale shopper, Marg passed on her joy for the thrill of the deal to her daughter and granddaughter.

Marg loved her golden retrievers, always leaving them the last bite of her meal, even when they certainly didn’t need it. She was a very quiet and modest woman who only became boastful when it came to the accomplishments of her grandchildren.

Margaret is survived by her three children; Gerald, Susan (Richard), and James (Marta), as well as her five grandchildren; Nora, Ryan, Owen, Alex, and Damian. Marg will be dearly missed by all those who loved her

A private viewing and Catholic burial at Christ the King cemetery in accordance with Covid-19 guidelines will be held

Memorial donations can be made to the Daily Bread Food Bank. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared for the Byrne family through the Giffen-Mack funeral home, Scarborough.
