BURNETT, Claire Isola - Claire Isola went peacefully to be with the Lord, on May 15, 2020, at the age of 88, two weeks after her husband’s passing.
Claire was born at Rockies, in Kingstown, St. Vincent, to parents James and Rachel Trent; raised by her Aunt Belle Dellimore, after the death of her mother.
Claire was a Seamstress by profession; one of the most sorted after, in the community. Her customized clothing included bridal gowns, bridesmaids and church dresses, school and work uniforms, curtains, drapes, and casual wear, for her clients and her family. She did all the above while raising her children and caring for her father. She was the queen of multitasking.
After her father died, she worked outside the home at The Barclays Bank (Messenger), Layne & Sons Ltd. and Corea’s & Co. Department Stores (in the Fabric Department), before opening her food catering and sewing business.
Claire was the President and the Choir leader of the (Revival Centre) Church Ladies group. Singing was her Ministry. She had such a powerful voice that touched everyone under the sound of her voice.
Claire immigrated to Toronto, Canada with her family in October 1983. She worked at The Sheraton Hotel (Housekeeping), Eaton’s Department Store (Sales Associate) and Sun Life of Canada (Cafeteria - Kitchen Support) until her retirement in 1997. A year later, she moved back to St Vincent with her husband, and started a sewing school. She wanted to pass on her sewing knowledge to others, especially the youths and women in the community. This was short lived, when she returned to Canada.
Claire, predeceased by her beloved husband of 64 years, Aubrey Gideon Burnett (Né Robinson).
Devoted mother of Raymond (Wendy), Trevor (Yvette), Roslyn, Renrick, Rosemarie (Calvert), Rhonda, Marva, Rosil (Wendell).
Loving Grandmother of 23, Great-Grandmother of 17 and Great-Great-Grandmother of one.
Fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews, extended family and dear friends.
Lovingly remembered by her sister: Ruth Melville of Rockies.
Predeceased by her brothers: Basil, Sonny, Roosevelt (aka Vell), Roy, Leonard and sisters: Jenna and Gloria.
God who is the greatest gift-giver ever, gave us the perfect gift at the perfect time.
Every good and perfect gift comes from above (James 1:17) and she was truly a “gift of God”, a gift to us, and a gift to the world in which He placed her to live, work, and serve.
Claire had a big heart and was very passionate about helping others - a protector. She was kind and selfless to a fault. She had a witty sense of humor, a kind of sweet toughness about her, and the most generous person one could ever meet. This generosity caused her and her late husband, to live and give their lives for the betterment of others.
She will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by all whose lives she touched.
May her generous legacy live on as “a divine gift” that keeps on giving!
